The National Institute for Health Services Management (INMSS) organises postgraduate training programmes in public health and management as well as in other areas of the health system, for all categories of health system staff.

In the course of time, INMSS has organized master courses, certificates, continuing medical education courses, practical internships.

The main thematic areas covered by the courses are:

  • Hospital management;
  • Management of Health and Social Services (leadership, strategic management, decision making, power and authority – delegation of authority, change management, time management, organisational behaviour, quality management, mechanisms and techniques for quality assurance and improvement);
  • Human Resources Management (human resources planning, recruitment, selection and development of personnel, communication, motivation, teamwork, conflict management, negotiation, career development, etc.);
  • Health Economics and Financial Management (basic concepts of microeconomics, health care market, macro-economics, financial flows for social and health care, payment mechanisms for providers, economic evaluation of social and health services, financial management and management);
  • Legislation and Ethics (Social and health legislation, ethical norms and values, ethical decisions at the beginning and end of life, patient-doctor relationship, research on human subjects and organ transplantation);
  • Epidemiology (Basic elements in Epidemiology, Bao-statistics, demography, advanced epidemiology etc.);
  • Health Promotion and Health Education;
  • Public Health Services (health and social needs assessment, health and social care systems, health systems reform);
  • Health and Social Services Research and Evaluation (health and social services research methodology – quantitative and qualitative, determinism and health and social services, research project planning);
  • Management of Public Health Programmes (planning, monitoring and evaluation);
  • Social Policies and Health Policies (social policy models, well-being, analysis of health systems and policies, social health insurance, main actors involved in social and health policies).
